Hybrid Static Var Genrator contactor Switching

Hybrid Static Var Genrator contactor Switching

To meet the requirement of continuous reactive power compensation with low cost, high reliability and large capacity, a hybrid Static Var Generator was proposed based on TSC (thyristor switched capacitor in parallel) and SVG (static var compensator). This system consisting of discrete subsystem TSC and continuous subsystem SVG, coordinated the capacitor switching rating of TSC with dynamic compensation of SVG by using two hybrid control laws based on expert decision making, made full use of their respective advantages. The machine learning approach was applied to avoid repeated movements of capacitors and extend equipment life.

ELPQC-HPFC Hybrid Static Var Generator

ELPQC-HPFC Hybrid Static Var Generator adopts the configuration scheme of combining ELPQC-ASVG Advanced Static Var Generator and switching capacitor/reactor, and implements different reactive compensation schemes according to the actual needs of users on site, so as to achieve the best combination of price and effect.

ELPQC-HPFC Hybrid Static Var Generator device consists of two parts:
Static Var Generator and switching capacitor/reactor reactive compensation unit. In ELPQC-HPFC hybrid dynamic reactive power compensation devices, each unit is designed and produced using low-power, small-volume and low-cost technology, and both units can be optionally combined in the best and most flexible way according to the actual reactive state of the site.

CapacitorReactor

A united system of thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) and ELPQC-SVG static var generator was proposed to improve voltage regulation, stability, and power factor in AC transmission and distribution systems.

The TSC is composed of multi-groups binary-coded capacitors, mainly used for large capacity VAR compensation step by step. ELPQC-SVG compensates small capacity reactive power continuously and filters harmonics generated by nonlinear loads.

ControllerSVG Device

When ELPQC-SVG compensates harmonics using traditional control methods, oscillation may occur if the SVG controller does not consider the interaction between TSC and SVG. Therefore, a predictive control algorithm for TSC is adopted to ensure proper compensation when load changes rapidly.
The proposed united compensation system can implement continuous reactive power and harmonic current compensation cost-effectively.

Modular Design

ELPQC Static Var Generator has an advanced modular design. Usually ELPQC-SVG consists of one or several SVG modules and an optional touch LCD Human Machine Interface. Each SVG module is an independent harmonic filtering system, and users can change the harmonic filtering system rating by adding or removing SVG modules.

According to the mounting type, ELPQC-SVG can be divided into Rack Modular SVG, Wall-mounted SVG,
and Free-standing SVG.

Automotive Industry

A united system of thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) and ELPQC-SVG Static Var Generator was proposed to improve voltage regulation, stability, and power factor in AC transmission and distribution systems. The TSC is composed of multi-group binary-coded capacitors, mainly used for large-capacity VAR compensation step by step. ELPQC-SVG compensates small-capacity reactive power continuously and filters harmonics generated by nonlinear loads.

The Industry

Traditional automotive manufacturing processes vary among manufacturers. However, in recent years, automation transformation has accelerated, including the adoption of high-end CNC punch presses, flexible automatic production lines, coating robots, welding robots, lifting robots, and industrial robots.

While automation equipment improves production efficiency and reduces labor requirements, it also introduces several power quality challenges.

The Problem

Automotive manufacturing is a typical heavy industry with large electricity demand, low power factor loads, nonlinear loads, and
frequent impact loads. These characteristics require a high standard of power quality management.

The industry contains a large number of rapidly changing loads, resulting in significant reactive power fluctuations. Traditional
capacitor-based reactive power compensation systems cannot respond quickly enough to these load changes.

The Solution

To address rapid load fluctuations, a corresponding Static Var Generator (SVG) system is configured to provide dynamic reactive power compensation.

A 300kVAr Hybrid Static Var Generator Panel was installed on-site to maintain the power factor at approximately 1.00 in real time while ensuring stable voltage and improved power quality.
